KING KRISP

Since 1992, this DJ has been rockin the decks and rockin crowds alike. With his wicked and daring drum and bass selection alongside his frantic, Q-Bert styled scratching: King Krisp has, and will be a force to reckoned with.

Being an avid hip-hop devotee since the Planet Rock and RUN-DMC days to his first club experience in 1989, you already know that this is a knowledgeable music fan. Krisp would first dance to the sounds of Little Louie Vega’s "French Kiss" and hip-house classics like Doug Lazy’s "Let the Rhythm Pump." Krisp would slowly lean more towards hip-hop and industrial as the acid house sounds were not very accessible (besides on the radio) to a 14 year old with no car (this was WAY before Internet access).

A newfound love of music was fond from building speaker boxes and installing/de-installing car audio systems. Through listening to Miami Bass music like Magic Mike, Techmaster PEB and MC ADE. Mixed with the techyness of industrial, the foundation for what was to come had been laid.

Venturing back into the club realm in late 1992 with a newfound love of Djing through hip-hop: Krisp managed to save up for a mixer and one belt-drive turntable. Back to the same club where he danced to the sound of acid house would now be taken over by new sounds of house and current industrial.

Bored with the sounds of house music that so many DJ’s would play, Krisp was looking for something. A sound that he had heard at raves and on certain compilations. It was funky, fast and utilized the same beats, rythyms and basslines that Krisp was so fond of from listening to Magic Mike. Krisp would get a healthy dose of this music, termed "breakbeat," from DJ Love (resident of Club Rome) and the previous DJ at the Wreck Room, Steve Morton.

Through meeting DJ love and his sidekicks Russ and DJ Diverse, Krisp learned more about this music and stayed with it, as it became known as "jungle" and even later termed "drum and bass." Krisp would team up with Diverse and Love to later form "The Pozitribe." Building on the what Love started in 89, they continued to throw some of Oklahoma City’s best and remembered parties, always catering to junglists. Krisp has since fought for the cause, promoting, nurturing and pioneering the way for all drum and bass DJs and producers in the state of Oklahoma and the Southern parts of the US.

As drum and bass got bigger, gigs started to roll in throughout he years. Krisp would wind up headlining parties in San Antonio, Dallas and opening up for UK acts such as Trace and Fierce, Dom and Roland, Dieselboy (3 times), and Lord Vishnu (Too many times to count).

It can safely be said that after 9 years of drum and bass and a huge musical background, this DJ can safely rock any crowd from the most distinguished junglist to the avid electronica listener.
